The Waldeck Peterborough Phantoms sealed maximum points from their weekend’s games by defeating the Raiders on Sunday night.
It was a busy first period for goal scoring and it was the Raiders who kicked it off, as Mikey Power directed a Sean Barry blue line effort from in close to put the visitors one ahead.
But Phantoms hit back moments later as Lukas Sladkovsky continued his impressive scoring run against his former club, slapping home from the blue line on the powerplay.
Ivan Björkly Nordström has started to find his scoring touch in Phantoms colours after arriving in early October and put Slava’s side ahead with 9:17 played. The tall forward circled the middle of the zone with the puck before finding the corner of the net.
Raiders drew level on 13:32 though as the puck bounced out to the neutral zone, where it was picked by by Adam Laishram, and he skated in and scored on the backhand.
Björkly Nordström put Phantoms back in front, arriving in the middle of the zone at the perfect time to receive the pass and rip into the net.
But the sides went into the first intermission all square as Nick Leyer found the back of Jordan Marr’s net from the left circle.
It took just over five minutes for the first goal of the second period and it was the Phantoms who grabbed it. Callum Buglass made it two goals in as many games when he found the bottom corner of Brad Windebank’s net.
And then, for the first time in the game, Phantoms led by two as Tom Norton skated in from the left wing and found a gap at Windebank’s near post to make it 5-3.
Luke Ferrara sent Phantoms in to the second break with a three goal advantage, going bar down on the penalty kill with a short handed goal two seconds from the buzzer.
Raiders mounted a third period comeback though, capitalising on a double minor for Phantoms’ captain, Will Weldon, as Aaron Connolly found the top corner.
They then got back to within one with 2:25 to play as Elliott Dewey threw the puck at net and it found a way through the traffic and into the goal.
Raiders pulled the goalie in the closing stages but Ales Padelek secured the Phantoms’ win by scoring on the empty net at 59:59.
