The WALDECK Peterborough Phantoms claimed both points on Sunday night as they defeated the Telford Tigers at Planet Ice Peterborough.

They didn’t get off to the best of starts, though, as the Tigers took the lead on 6:44 when Vladimir Luka smashed a blue line effort past Hayden Lavigne.

They almost made it two when James Smith tipped an effort from in close, but it flew just over the bar.

And Phantoms drew level when former Tiger Austin Mitchell-King was expertly picked out on the back door by Callum Buglass and Phantoms’ #24 tapped home the leveler.

Luke Ferrara picked up his first of the night with 18:06 played, tipping home a Janne Laakkonen effort to give Phantoms their first lead of the evening.

But their lead was short lived as Smith ripped an effort beyond Lavigne from the centre of the zone, ensuring the sides would go into the first intermission all square.

It didn’t take Phantoms long to get going in the second period and it was the Ferrara - Laakkonen link up that paid dividends again. This time, Laakkonen found Ferrara skating towards the zone and he took the pass, gained the zone and fired his effort into the top corner from the right circle.

Adam Harding went close to leveling the scores moments later, but his effort from in close to Lavigne went wide.

But they did draw level when Phantoms picked up a bench minor for too many men on the ice and Finley Howells slapped an effort home from the right circle.

Phantoms went close to taking a lead into the second period break, but Nojus Venskutonis’ effort flew just wide of the post after the young defenceman had done well to gain the zone and find space for the shot.

Scott Robson went close early in the third but was denied by Brad Day, before Scott McKenzie missed the target at the other end.

Phantoms took the lead again when Ferrara completed his hat-trick when he went bar down, before Cam Hough was denied a Phantoms fifth on the breakaway.

They did make it five when the Phantoms’ top line linked up again - this time Hough found Laakkonen and he found the back of Day’s net.

The scoring was rounded off when Ferrara picked up a fourth of the night, completing a good win on home ice for the WALDECK Peterborough Phantoms.
