The Peterborough Phantoms took the long trip up north to the Hull Ice Arena to take on the Seahawks. The Phantoms found themselves making the trip without Austin Mitchell-King, Billy Thorpe, Zaine McKenzie, Duncan Speirs and Janne Lakkonen.
To start off the game the Phantoms pushed a very offensive style of play to test Dmitri Zimozdra in net for the Seahawks as well as their defence. For the first 10 minutes of the game, it was extremely balanced with neither team being able to finish their chances to get the puck to the back of the net and take a lead but the Phantoms did find themselves having to go onto the penalty kill during this time but were able to see through the 2 minutes.
A chance emerged for the Phantoms as Matthew Savile was able to break a play for the Seahawks and gain possession to have a one on one chance against Zimozdra, but was unable to get the puck to the back of the net.
The Seahawks were then able to push the puck into the Phantoms’ offensive zone to take the lead at 12:19 with Emil Svec scoring the goal. Shortly after, Lee Bonner also found himself with the opportunity to extend the lead for Hull and with the assistance of Johnny Corneil he was able to do so at 16:15 to take a 2-0 lead.
The Seahawks then made their way onto the penalty kill with just over 1 minute remaining in the first period and this gave Luke Ferrara the perfect chance the end the silence on the Phantoms’ end on the scoreboard and with help from Cam Hough and Bradley Bowering, at 19:41 the Phantoms got their first goal of the night.
The Phantoms came into the second period hungry to close the gap on the scoreboard and pushed straight into the offensive zone to try an equalise.
Some chances throughout the first 10 minutes of the second went in favour of Cam Hough as well as some close chances from Luke Ferrara to get his second but neither were able to get the second goal during this time.
Some words were exchanged between the two sides with Bobby Chamberlain and Bradley Bowering but nothing serious came from this.
A good chance for Jasper Foster came during this period as he made his way to test Zimozdra but his shot went just over Zimzodra’s shoulder and not long after a breakaway chance went in favor of Luke Ferrara but again was unable to get it to the back of the net.
The Phantoms made their way back onto the penalty kill as a face-off violation was given to Louie Kynaston but Peterborough were able to see it through until another penalty was given to Nathan Salem who received a Holding penalty.
Not long after Salem made his way to the penalty box, he was joined by Hough after more handbags between both sides broke out and this saw Hough and Johnny Corneil both receive unsportsmanlike misconduct penalties.
This gave Hull a powerplay opportunity and Chamberlain was able to make the most out of it, with the assistance of Owen Sobchak and Lee Bonner the Seahawks took a 2 goal lead. Just before the period was over the Phantoms were struck with a Too Many Men penalty that saw them enter the third period back onto the penalty kill.
The Seahawks came into the third period with the advantage, and just 32 seconds in were able to get their fourth of the night as Svec for the second time on the night got the puck to the back of the net with assistance from Owen Sobchak and Declan Balmer.
After the Phantoms returned to full strength they were able to push back into the Seahawks’ defensive zone to try and close the gap and after chances for Jasper Foster again and Luke Ferrara, they were unable to slot it to the back of Zimozdra’s net.
More penalties saw both teams’ special teams take to the ice for the rest of the period but neither were able to take advantage of the extra skater on the ice and this saw the game finish with Hull taking the points on the night.
