The WALDECK Peterborough Phantoms went to Swindon on Saturday to take on the Wildcats.

At the beginning of the game, both teams seemed competitive, with Cam Hough dispossessing Balint Pakozdi and Luke Ferrara, Janne Laakkonen shooting at Wildcats’ starting goalie Renny Marr.

Within the first two minutes, Chris Jones received a penalty for high sticking, although this put the Phantoms on the powerplay, Luc Johnson was still able to score the first Wildcats’ goal shorthanded.

Less than two minutes later, Ferrara levelled the scoreboard for the Phantoms. Motivated by this goal, Nojus Venskutonis and Tom Palmer battled the Wildcats to keep the puck out of their zone.

With Venskutonis sitting a slashing penalty, the Wildcats were able to score a second goal through Tomasz Malasinski, this was replicated later when Tom Palmer sat two minutes for slashing, Reed Sayers capitalised on this powerplay putting a third puck in Phantoms’ starting goalie Hayden Lavigne’s net.

Pakozdi scored a fourth goal for the Cats, soon after Callum Buglass shot at Marr from just beyond the blue line, rebounding, allowing Austin Mitchell-King to dig it into Marr’s net. The second period started with end-to-end action, with Nathan Salem shooting at Marr and Edgars Bebris shooting at Lavigne. Shortly after Glenn Billing and Sam Bullas added numbers onto the Cats' goal sheet; after the sixth Cats’ goal, the young Luke Clark took over from Lavigne. Barnabás Sári and Duncan Speirs held possession in the Wildcats zone, both exchanging and shooting pucks at Marr.

Jake Bricknell and Jones scored two more goals for the Cats. Despite these setbacks, Clark settled into the game and showed promise, making some good stops for the Phantoms. Sári and Mitchell-King weren’t ready to give up, with Sári chasing Ryan Wells around the Cats’ net trying to gain puck possession, and Mitchell-King creating chances in front of Marr’s net.

Tyler Perre replaced Marr in the Swindon net for the last period. In terms of goals, this period was comparatively quiet, with Wildcat Pakozdi the only one to score.
