The WALDECK Peterborough Phantoms travelled to Slough on Saturday for a final away game before Christmas.
The first period started well for the Phantoms as less than five minutes into the game Austin Mitchell-King lit the lamp for the Phantoms, unfortunately this advantage was short-lived as Dominik Gabaj scored the first goal for the Bees.
Phantoms goalie Hayden Lavigne stood tall against an array of shots from Dom Gabaj, Vanya Antonov and Marcel Balaž; Lavigne faced 17 pucks in the first period. Bees goalie Max Wright faced 18 shots, with Luke Ferrara, Nathan Salem, and Janne Laakkonen winding their sticks up at the goalie.
Will Stead was able to sneak another puck behind Lavigne, but mirroring the first set of goals - Laakkonen tricked Wright by pretending to shoot at the goalie, this made Wright launch himself towards the false attempt, instead Laakkonen passed the puck to Cam Hough allowing him to tidy up the goal.
During the second period Antonov was handed a two-minute penalty for hooking, this allowed Jarvis Hunt, Hough and Salem to shoot at Wright. Scott Robson clashed sticks with Josh Kelly; Robson was penalised with a two-minute penalty - this allowed Adam Rosbottom to score for the Bees, less than two minutes later Balaž scored for the Bees.
The final period saw the Phantoms battle hard to try and claw back the game, Duncan Speirs defended Lavigne when he dive-blocked Gabaj’s shot; with Ferrara, Salem and Laakkonen trying to get the better of Wright - it was Jasper Foster who scored the final goal for the Phantoms. This was returned when Gabaj shot the puck behind Lavigne.
In the last three minutes, the Phantoms scrambled in front of the net to try and score a fourth goal, the Phantoms thought they had achieved this but the officials washed the goal away.
