The Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to have sealed the signature of forward, Will Weldon, for his tenth consecutive season with the club and are pleased to confirm he will be awarded with a testimonial game!

Weldon joined the Phantoms ahead of the 2011/12 season after spending the entirety of the early days of his career in his hometown of Nottingham. He featured for the Nottingham Cougars, Lynx, Leopards and the Lions, whilst also making a handful of appearances for the Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League.

He quickly became a fan favourite in Peterborough and is a hugely popular character in the locker room. He’s now approaching 500 appearances in Phantoms colours and the 2021/22 season should see him reach that milestone.

Welds has signed a two-year contract, keeping him with the Club until at least the end of the 22/23 season and will celebrate his tenth year with a testimonial game!

Weldon said the following about his return for a tenth year: “I’m really happy to be back for my tenth season if Phantoms colours. I’m looking forward to getting going again and hope to be challenging for silverware once again!”

And he was also proud to be rewarded with a testimonial: “It’s a huge honour to be offered the opportunity to do that. Looking at those nine seasons I’ve been here already, I think we’ve only had two testimonials in that time so I think that shows it’s not something that’s just handed out to guys as a sweetener or a bonus, it’s something that you do genuinely have to work hard for, so to be offered the opportunity by Slava and the Club, I’m really pleased and certainly proud!”

Slava Koulikov was thrilled to seal the return of a vital part of his team: “What can I say about Welds? He’s Mr Reliable! I like my centremen to be responsible in all areas of the ice, be one step ahead of what’s about to happen next and be smart defensively. Welds’ hockey IQ allows him to do all of the above and that’s why he is my go-to guy in big/important situations. In the last two seasons, Welds has unselfishly sacrificed his personal points to play such an important role on the team that ultimately made our team very competitive and successful. Welds is irreplaceable in our team and I am really happy he’s back with the Phantoms organisation for a tenth season!

“We’re also pleased to be able to reward Welds’ commitment and dedication to our team with a testimonial game. It’s not common for a guy to stay with one club for ten years in any sport anymore and we can consider ourselves lucky that Welds has done that with us, so it was only fair that we repaid him for that loyalty with a testimonial game!” Slava concluded.
