Your Peterborough Phantoms are back in action on Friday night with a trip to Sheffield, before the Bees visit Planet Ice Peterborough on Sunday.

The Peterborough Phantoms could welcome back Nathan Pollard and Billy Thorpe to their lineup for the trip to Sheffield, whilst Morgan Clarke-Pizzo could also feature.

Corey McEwen, Will Weldon and Luc Johnson will all miss out through injury, whilst Brad Bowering is away with the Great Britain u20’s.

The Steeldogs currently sit third in the NIHL National, but take on the Phantoms on the back of a three game winless run.

Sheffield are likely to be close to full strength for the clash with the Phantoms. Their roster features a blend of youth and experience, with several Sheffield juniors being afforded ice time this season.

Their lineup will contain the third highest scorer in the NIHL National League. Jason Hewitt has struck 19 goals and 14 assists for 33 points in 15 games so far this season.

Greg Wood is in his second spell as the Head Coach of the Steeldogs. His first spell was between 2015-2017, before returning to the club in 2019.

The Bees are currently at the bottom of the National League table, but did overcome the Phantoms in Slough last Sunday.

The Bees’ lineup features a number of players who are new to the league this season. Bayley Harewood and Juha Lindgren are currently with the Great Britain U20’s, whilst Mikey Power recently departed the club for the Milton Keynes Lightning.

The Bees do have a number of familiar faces in their side. Joe Baird, James Galazzi, Josh Smith and Stuart Mogg could all face the Phantoms, whilst import Dominik Gabaj will be looking to continue his productive start to the season.

Doug Sheppard is well known to British hockey, having spent the majority of his career on these shores. The Canadian coach joined the Bees from the Bison a couple of years ago, having been successful with the Bison until that point.

Our last trip to Sheffield was a tough one and one we want to put right this time. They’re a good team as we all know, with lots of firepower and they added a good group of players from Hull to their Sheffield core in the summer, so we know they’ll be rolling their forward lines because all of them are capable of scoring.

They’ve changed their style from how they used to play. Previously, they’d get the puck deep and go to the dirty areas to win it and create chances from there, but now their forwards are all looking to create chances as they advance forward and their defence try to activate into the play. This means we have to play a responsible game and everyone needs to make sure they’re doing their job on both sides of the puck.

Sunday will be another interesting one, the game in Slough last week against the Bees was a tough one to analyse because we had a lot of players out, but hopefully we can get a few of them back for this week and put on a good performance for our fans in our last home game before Christmas!
