Phantoms defenceman Scott Robson, sponsored by Serpentine Green, is pleased to be back in action following Wednesday’s 16-0 victory over the Milton Keynes Thunder. Next up for the Phantoms is Robbo’s local side, the Hull Pirates, as pre-season preparations continue.
Despite the one-sided nature of the scoreline, Robson feels Wednesday’s game had a number of benefits as the Phantoms prepare for the new NIHL National season.
“Looking back at the game, I think it was a perfect way to shake off the cobwebs after a long summer and get going again, even for the fans to see the team in action early as possible. From previous years, this pre-season will be the best we have, in terms of maximising how prepared we are for the upcoming season. It’s good to be in in-game situations this early on and definitely not a bad thing for any of the guys.” Robson said.
Hull Pirates travel to Planet Ice Peterborough on Saturday night, before the Phantoms make the trip up north to take on Hull once again on Sunday evening. Robson believes Hull is an ideal challenge to have at this stage of the pre-season.
“We know we have to take it up a notch in terms of performance as the Hull fixtures will be a great test for us, we are hoping for it to be more physical and we won’t have the puck as much as we did on Wednesday. So again, it’s good get more action in before the season starts. It will be good for the boys to compete and get up to full speed over the weekend again.” Said Robson
Robson is from the Hull area and played a number of his younger years for the Stingrays in the Elite League. He joined the Phantoms in 2014/15 from the Stingrays and is now entering his sixth season with the club, but he still looks forward to returning to his hometown when the Phantoms visit Hull.
“It’s one of the first fixtures I look out for personally, I have a lot of family there so it’s good to catch up with them and also, they can see me play in Hull. I know the majority of the team from growing up there so it’s good to compete against those guys and obviously after the disappointment against them in Coventry, it’s added a bit more spice between the two teams and one I’m looking forward to when the season gets going. I’m sure these pre-season games will have a bit of everything in them, which will be great for the fans to watch.” Robson said.
The NIHL National League begins its inaugural season in just a couple of weeks, and the excitement levels are rising for fans and players alike.
“It should be a tough and more competitive league and almost similar to the EPL days. Every game will be a battle and we know any fixture between teams anything can happen so we will be mentally ready and prepared for everything.” Said Robson.
After the successes of last season, Robson is confident the team can build on the three trophies they claimed in the last campaign and take their good form into the new season.
“The main aim for the team is to win as many games as possible and hopefully that leads into winning trophies. It will be a tough challenge but I’m more than confident we will be in contention to clinch all trophies come the end of the season. Our team have a good mix of skill, talent and hard work, and we also have great depth which will no doubt come in handy throughout the season. I don’t really have personal aims or goals, just to be better than last season and to help the team win in any way I can.” He said.
“We can always improve, and everyone enjoyed their summer and we look to be a step ahead of the competition when the season starts. The culture we have instilled in the team over the years has made everyone push one another to be better, we have a unique bond in the dressing room, and we can lean on one another when times are tough. I think that’s the most important thing in building success in our organisation.” Robbo concluded.
We’d like to thank Serpentine Green for sponsoring Scott this season and for their continued support!
