We caught up with Phantoms owners, Jo & Dave Lane, and they are excited for the start of the 2019/20 season, following a successful season last term. With the Phantoms’ NIHL National League campaign getting underway this coming weekend, Dave & Jo are hopeful the team can pick up where they left off last year.

“Obviously last season was a huge success on the ice. Winning three trophies was more than any of us probably expected so huge credit has to go to Slava and the team for that. It was nice to see the prospects progression throughout the year last year and we’d be delighted if they continue to progress at the same rate this season, too.”

The NIHL National League got underway on Sunday evening as the Sheffield Steeldogs defeated the Leeds Chiefs 3-1 in the Chiefs first ever game. The Phantoms owners believe the new league will ensure an exciting, competitive season.

“It should be exciting. The new league brings together the top teams from last season’s north and south division so every weekend should be very competitive. It looks as though any team could beat anyone and there certainly won’t be any games that you’d expect to win. There’s been results in pre-season from around the league that have proved this and I think we’re in for an exciting season as a result.”

After the treble win of last season, Dave & Jo are hopeful that the team can bring more success to the club this year.

“Of course, it would be great if we could win another trophy, but as long as we’re competing in every game and the fans enjoy the on-ice product, that would be another successful season for us.”

And they are optimistic about the future of the club both on and off the ice.

“The club has never been in a better place, we have all worked really hard behind the scenes in the summer, securing the services of Slava for an addition 2 seasons was a big plus for us along with recuting the same team as last season all but one additon and one that called it a day is a great achievement for our club. These players are all committited to our club and I cant thank them enough. We have secured some great new sponsors and also added to our off ice team. As a club we are working even harder in developing our home grown talent and will be continuing to develop these players from our junior system through our Phantoms 2 team. Last season showed the success of younger players coming through our system. We are all really excited to get the season started now and are looking forward to filling the rink and getting behind the team.” they concluded.
