Swindon Wildcats 6–4 Peterborough Phantoms

Two goals in the final four minutes were enough for the Swindon Wildcats to claim victory over the Phantoms on Saturday night.

The Cats took the lead with 2:41 on the clock. James Ferrara’s pass was intercepted, and Tomasz Malasinski and Aaron Nell broke for the Cats, with Nell applying the finishing touch on the short-handed marker.

Nell struck again ten minutes later for the Cats’ second short-handed goal of the period.

Ales Padelek put the Phantoms on the board with 17 seconds left in the opening period, putting the Phantoms back within touching distance.

Tom Norton struck his fifth goal in three games with a powerplay marker at 26:29, to tie the game and set up a dramatic second half of the game.

And the Phantoms went ahead for the first time in the game through Joe Hazeldine. The Nottingham Panthers defenceman was found at the back post and made no mistake with his finish, securing his first Phantoms goal.

But the Cats were level just 25 seconds later through Toms Rutkis, who carved the Phantoms defence open and applied the finishing touch .

Tyler VanKleef put the Cats back in front with a powerplay goal inside the final two minutes of the second period.

The first goal of the third period didn’t come until 55:45, when James Ferrara levelled the scores.

But then, with Jarvis Hunt and Callum Buglass both penalised by the referees, Swindon took their chance as Eddie Bebris put them back in front.

Toms Rutkis sealed the deal for the Cats inside the final minute. But the action wasn’t quite over, Neil Liddiard jumped Phantoms forward Martins Susters in the final minute and received a match penalty for fighting.
