PHANTOMS CLAIM THE SPOILS IN NINE GOAL THRILLER

Peterborough Phantoms 5-4 Hull Pirates

The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms kicked off their weekend with a victory on home ice over the Hull Pirates.

But the Pirates took the lead when Canadian forward David Norris scored eight minutes and 18 seconds into his debut.

James Ferrara equalised three minutes later, finishing off a clever move which involved Callum Buglass and Ales Padelek.

It didn’t take the Pirates long to regain the lead, though, with Bobby Chamberlain finding a way past Jordan Marr to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

Then, with Sam Towner sitting an interference penalty, Petr Stepanek found Martins Susters, and the 21-year-old forward supplied the finishing touch.

And the Phantoms took the lead for the first time in the game when J.Ferrara found Padelek on the back door, and Padelek finished with ease past a sprawling Ash Smith.

With just 1:25 played in the second period, Stepanek added his name to the scoresheet to put the Phantoms two goals ahead. Susters had an effort blocked, before Will Weldon found the big #40 with a clever pass, and Stepanek did the rest.

Padelek extended the advantage to three goals with another powerplay marker, with 22:58 played in the game.

Former Phantom Towner added his name to the scoresheet with just over half of the game played, as Norris this time turned provider for Towner to find the net.

Kevin Phillips then hauled down Stepanek with him through on goal, handing Stepanek a chance to put the Phantoms three goals ahead once again, but Smith made the save from his penalty shot.

Chamberlain notched his second of the night with 50:33 on the clock, to put the Pirates within one.

Phantoms survived a couple of near misses and Marr stood on his head to keep the Pirates at bay, before Jason Hewitt’s side lost their discipline and took a number of late penalties, allowing the Phantoms to see the game through and claim the two points.
