Peterborough Phantoms 4-2 Leeds Chiefs
The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms claimed victory in their first ever meeting with the Leeds Chiefs.
Phantoms took the lead with just under ten minutes played in the game. Glenn Billing finished off a power play move, taking a pass from Will Weldon to fire over the shoulder of Sam Gospel in the Leeds net.
Former Phantom Richard Bentham levelled the scores a couple of minutes later, scrambling the puck home after Ryan Bainborough’s initial save.
Martins Susters then dangled his way through the Chiefs defence, taking the puck by three players before laying off Petr Stepanek. Stepanek’s shot, though, was saved well by Gospel.
Conor Pollard marked his return to the line up with a goal to put the Phantoms back into the lead with 13 seconds to play in the opening period. He applied the finishing touch to another powerplay move to send the Phantoms into the first intermission with the lead.
Martins Susters scored the Phantoms’ third power play goal of the night with nine minutes played in the second period. He took a set-up from Weldon and slammed the puck beyond Gospel and into the net.
The lead was extended to three goals when Stepanek found space in the middle of the zone and fired his shot high into the back of the net.
The Chiefs struck back with a powerplay goal of their own through Adam Barnes. The Chiefs’ #88 gained the zone and unleashed a slap shot which left Bainborough with no chance.
The Chiefs pushed to get back into the game, but the Phantoms comfortably held on to claim the two points.
