Peterborough Phantoms 4-1 Sheffield Steeldogs
The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms completed a four point weekend with a win over the Sheffield Steeldogs.
The damage was done in the first period for the Phantoms, who scored all four of their goals in the opening frame.
Martins Susters opened the scoring inside the opening two minutes. He capitalised on a rebound from Petr Stepanek’s initial shot, to tuck home his first of the night.
Nathan Pollard doubled the Phantoms’ advantage with 6:36 played. Joe Gretton’s shot was tipped on net by Ross Clarke, and after Dimitri Zimozdra made the save, Pollard bounced to fire beyond the helpless Steeldogs netminder.
Susters made it 3-0 with the best goal of the night on 15:13. He found space to the left of the Dogs’ goal, took the pass from Stepanek and wristed his shot perfectly into the top corner.
And his hat-trick was complete in the final minute of the period – Stepanek again collecting the assist for Susters to slam home a fourth for Slava Koulikov’s side.
The Steeldogs upped their levels in the second period, but Phantoms did well to maintain control of the game.
Ben Morgan did eventually put the Dogs on the board, though, firing home from close range after good work from Nathan Salem.
That was the end of the scoring, but not the end of the action. The third period saw Pollard drop the gloves with Reece Cochrane – a fight which ended in a draw.
The Phantoms saw out the game comfortably to claim a four point weekend.
It was a win which saw the Phantoms qualify for the knockout stage of the NIHL National Cup.
