Telford Tigers and Peterborough Phantoms have confirmed the dates for their two-legged NIHL National Cup Final.

Peterborough will host the first leg on Friday March 6 with a 7.30pm face off, with the return at Telford on Wednesday March 11 – puck drop at 7.45pm.

Telford Tigers finished top of the qualifying group and had to come from behind in the semi final against Swindon Wildcats, finally winning out in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Peterborough Phantoms were third in the round robin and won both legs of their last four tie with Hull Pirates including an 8-6 goalfest at Bretton in the second leg.

In the season series so far between the teams, Telford have won three from three, but two of the games went to a shootout so the two sides are extremely well-matched.

Tigers head coach Tom Watkins said:  “We’re very excited to have made the Cup Final after a tight series against Swindon.

“We showed a lot of resilience to qualify and we know we will need the same attitude and focus to be successful against a talented Peterborough team.”

Watkins’ opposite number at Peterborough Slava Koulikov said: “I am so proud of my players, a team with big hearts who fight for every point and deserve to be in a fifth final out five since last year. Just to make one final is a huge achievement for this club but to be in all five it’s just amazing.

“It should be two good games between two very good teams and we’re looking forward to trying to get our hands on some more silverware!”
