The Phantoms renew rivalries with the MK Lightning in our first fixture of 2020.

Scott Robson will miss out due to injury, whilst the game could also come too soon for Glenn Billing. Billing is back skating with the team, and took part in the warmup on Sunday, but the Phantoms are managing his return to the side.

Martins Susters and Petr Stepanek returned to the Phantoms line up last weekend and are both expected to be in the team once again on New Year’s Day. Susters scored in Milton Keynes on Saturday night, whilst Stepanek netted against the Basingstoke Bison on Sunday.

The Phantoms are also waiting to learn if they will have the services of Panthers pair, Josh Tetlow and Joe Hazeldine. Tetlow iced and won the man of the match award for the Phantoms on Sunday night, but his involvement will depend on the Nottingham Panthers schedule.

Liam Stewart netted for the first time against the Phantoms on Saturday night and will be looking to continue his prolific start to life in Milton Keynes. The 25-year-old has 21 goals and 6 assists in 15 games.

Tom Carlon could feature against his former side on New Year’s Day. The forward missed out on Saturday night but had an eventful return to the MKL line up on Sunday. He was given 2+10 for boarding and then a further 2 for slashing and 2+2 for fighting against the Telford Tigers.

Dean Skinns played in net against the Phantoms on Saturday, but Jordan Lawday backstopped MKL to an impressive win in Telford on Sunday night. Lawday made 35 saves from 38 shots and that could be enough to earn a start between the pipes on Wednesday night.

Saturday’s game in Milton Keynes was unbelievable in every sense. The game, all the goals, the full building and the atmosphere from both sets of fans. It’s the kind of game we all want to be involved in and it lived up to the occasion. We knew it would be tough because MK are getting better week by week and they’ve been on a really good run, so I was really pleased we managed to get the win in OT.

Marrsy was outstanding for us, he stood on his head and made some fantastic saves, which allowed us to go forward and play with confidence. MK battled back well but the guys showed what they’re capable of and I’m really pleased we were able to get the result for the fans.

I’m hoping our rink will be packed out for what I’m expecting to be another great game between two good teams. MK are further down the table than they’d like to be, but I fully expect them to move up the league in the second half of the season. We know what we need to do to be successful, if we turn up and put 110% into the game and use the support of our fans to our advantage, hopefully that will be enough to get the result and start 2020 in the right way!
