Phantoms forward Corey McEwen reflects on the double header against Hull, after making his return to the line-up on Saturday night.
McEwen picked up an injury in pre-season which has kept him out of action. But he made his return on Saturday and was delighted to do so.
“It was great to be back on the ice last weekend with the boys, after being out for so long it was good to lace my skates up again. With it being such a successful season last year I couldn’t wait to come back to Peterborough and play in front of the amazing fans here but picking up an injury in preseason has been really frustrating for me, I hate watching from the side-lines.” McEwen said.
He didn’t believe the Phantoms were up to their usual standards on Saturday night, but is pleased they stuck to the game plan and picked up the result.
Corey said: “Last weekend was tough; Hull are a good strong team with lots of guys that can put the puck in the net. They’re a competitive side, and we didn’t play as well as we know that we can, but we stuck to the game plan especially on Saturday and we came out with the win.”
Next weekend holds a trip to Bracknell, before a home game against the Basingstoke Bison on Sunday. McEwen knows both teams will battle and thinks the Phantoms will have to do the same if they’re going to be successful.
“Bracknell are a tough team to face away from home, we know they’ll always battle for the full 60 minutes, we need to make sure that we do the same so that we come out with the win. Basingstoke are another team that will battle for the full game, and they have some good players that can put points up if we don’t stick to our game plan. They’re good on the powerplay so we need to make sure we stay out of the penalty box on Sunday and not give them the opportunities.”
And Corey is hoping he and his teammates can bring some more silverware to Peterborough, after last season’s treble win.
“We had a really good season last year winning three trophies and we are hoping to win some more silverware this season to go next to that. Everyone plays to win, and it would be nice to lift another trophy this season.”
