MATCH REPORT | PHANTOMS ROUND OFF 2019 WITH A FOUR POINT WEEKEND

Peterborough Phantoms 5-2 Basingstoke Bison

The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms ended the decade with a home win against the Basingstoke Bison.

Alex Sampford opened the scoring for the visitors. Jordan Marr made a smart stop on the initial effort but Sampford was on hand to lift the rebound into the net.

The second goal didn’t come until 34:36, but it was the Phantoms who got it. Petr Stepanek was the man who levelled the scores for Slava Koulikov’s team.

Then, as the Bison began to become ill disciplined, Ales Padelek set up Tom Norton for a one time slap shot which left Alex Mettam with no chance.

Sam Talbot levelled the scores with 5:19 played in the third period. The Phantoms did well to block his first shot, but the rebound dropped straight to his tape, and he fired a fierce shot past Marr.

Corey McEwen put the Phantoms back in front with a well worked goal between Martins Susters and himself. Once Phantoms had gained the zone, Susters found the onrushing McEwen, who unleashed a powerful wrist shot which found the back of the net.

Ales Padelek was then put in on a breakaway by Gareth O’Flaherty. And, after a couple of touches, Padelek went top shelf over Mettam’s shoulder to put the Phantoms two ahead.

Will Weldon rounded off the scoring with an unassisted empty net goal with 28 seconds to play in the game.

It was a result which saw the Phantoms seal a four point weekend in their last two games of the decade, ensuring it will be a very Happy New Year for everyone associated with the Peterborough DALROD Phantoms!
