MATCH REPORT | PHANTOMS HOLD ON TO CLAIM SERIES VICTORY OVER BISON

Basingstoke Bison 4–5 Peterborough Phantoms

The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms claimed victory in the final meeting between themselves & the Bison this term, ensuring the Phantoms won the series between the two sides.

Basingstoke started brightly, but the Phantoms grew into the game as Nathan Pollard, Ales Padelek and Will Weldon went close to opening the scoring.

Jordan Marr was called into a number of smart stops as the period continued and the score remained at 0-0.

Then, shortly after the Phantoms had a goal washed out, Bison found a way past Marr when Adam Harding took a pass from Alex Sampford to light the lamp for the home side.

Phantoms were level moments later when Scott Robson hit a blue line bullet to send the teams into the first intermission all square.

Petr Stepanek opened the second period scoring with a powerplay blue liner to put the Phantoms ahead for the first time in the game.

George Norcliffe levelled the scores, only for Martins Susters to notch a shorthanded goal moments later to put the Phantoms 3-2 ahead.

After a long conversation between the referees, Phantoms were given their fourth goal of the night as Robson picked up his second of the game.

Jordan Marr had an impressive night in goal, but was powerless to stop Sam Smith’s effort which was rifled into the back of the net.

Glenn Billing made it 5-3 with a smart finish on the backhand, collecting a powerplay goal after Bison defenceman, Jay King, was given a 5+game penalty for slashing.

Michal Klejna capitalised on a misplaced pass to skate in and score a shorthanded goal for the Bison, but the Phantoms held on to ensure they’d bring both points home to Peterborough.
