MATCH REPORT | PHANTOMS CLAIM DRAMATIC LATE WIN OVER THE STEELDOGS

Peterborough Phantoms 6-5 Sheffield Steeldogs

The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms did it the hard way, but they did eventually seal a four-point weekend with victory over the Sheffield Steeldogs.

But they didn’t get off to the best of starts; Alex Graham finished smartly after just 19 seconds to give the Steeldogs the lead.

And that lead was doubled with 15:30 played as Jan Danecek picked up a rebound from Craig Elliott’s shot and backhanded the puck into the net.

James Ferrara got the Phantoms on the board with a powerplay goal in the final few minutes of the opening frame.

Phantoms began period two killing a five on three penalty and, after getting one man back, the Dogs made the advantage count as former Phantom, Nathan Salem, hit the back of the net.

Tom Norton pulled a goal back as the game approached the halfway mark, with a bobbling shot which found its way past Curtis Warburton in the Steeldogs goal.

Charlie Thompson struck for the Dogs three minutes later with a smart finish from the left wing into the top corner. Ryan Bainborough replaced Jordan Marr between the pipes after this goal.

And the Phantoms hit back just nine seconds later. Martins Susters dropped a pass between his legs to Stepanek, who struck a one-time slap shot from close range, into the back of the net.

And the scores were tied at four when Glenn Billing tipped home a Nathan Long laser from the point.

Lewis Bell put the Steeldogs ahead once again with a powerplay goal from the blue line with just 30 seconds to play in the middle period.

The latest Phantoms equaliser came with 6:48 to play in the game. Stepanek sent J.Ferrara in on a breakaway and the captain made no mistake with his finish, claiming a shorthanded goal.

And the winner came with 1:57 left to play in the game. Stepanek played a pass across the ice to Susters, who gained the zone and fired a shot past Warburton from the left wing.
