MATCH REPORT | LATE McEWEN STRIKE EARNS PHANTOMS BOTH POINTS

Peterborough Phantoms 5-4 Bracknell Bees

A late Corey McEwen strike gave the Peterborough DALROD Phantoms their eighth straight victory at the hands of the Bracknell Bees.

18-year-old defenceman, Brad Bowering, gave the Phantoms the perfect start inside the opening two minutes, after ripping his shot in off the pipes.

Dominik Gabaj gave the Bees an almost instant reply with a smart finish, with only 2:48 played in the game.

McEwen netted his first of the night on the powerplay, getting himself in front of goal before lifting the puck past Adam Goss.

Petr Stepanek extended the lead to two after collecting a pass from Norton and firing his shot beyond Goss from the left wing.

Gabaj found the net for the second time in the game with 27:47 played. The Bees #23 saw a chance saved by Jordan Marr saved seconds earlier, but when the second chance came, he made no mistake.

Ales Padelek reinstated the two goal lead after taking a Tom Norton pass to fire a slapshot beyond Goss. The Bees goalie got a touch on the puck, but it wasn’t enough to keep it out of the net.

Harvey Stead fired home a powerplay slapshot for the Bees with 53:04 played, before Ryan Webb levelled the scores with just over four minutes to play.

That set up a grandstand finish for the Phantoms as Padelek set Martins Susters in on a breakaway. Susters gained the zone and then unselfishly slid the puck across to McEwen, who applied the finishing touch to give Phantoms both points.
