Basingstoke Bison 2–2 Peterborough Phantoms
Captain James Ferrara scored both goals for the Phantoms as the Phantoms and Bison shared the spoils on Saturday night. This draw means it’s all to play for on Sunday night as the Bison travel to Peterborough for the second leg of the Billy Glover Memorial Cup.
The Bison took the lead with an early power play goal through import forward Michal Klejna. Klejna took the set-up from player coach Ashley Tait and fired the puck beyond Marr.
Martins Susters had a chance to get the Phantoms back on terms, but was well marshalled by Bison defenceman, Ollie Stone.
Ales Padelek, Ferrara and Petr Stepanek all had chances before the first period ended, but the Bison went in a goal to the good.
The second period was one of few chances for either side. Both goalies made a few saves but there were no major openings. The score remained 1-0 as the game reached the end of the middle period.
The Phantoms found their feet in the third and began to dominate the game. The leveller came when captain Ferrara found a way past Dan Weller-Evans, after an assist by Joe Gretton.
And with Klejna in the box, Ferrara struck again moments later to put the Phantoms a goal up.
Alex Sampford scored in the dying seconds after another assist from Tait, to send the sides back to Peterborough all square.
A period of overtime was played, where Richard Bordowski scored the winner for the Bison, but this goal won’t count towards the aggregate score tomorrow evening.
