The Peterborough DALROD Phantoms are thrilled to announce that Jason Buckman will be taking on the role of Phantoms 2 Head Coach for the 2020/21 season!

Jason was born in Peterborough and played the majority of his career in the city, with Nottingham, Chelmsford and Romford also appearing on his playing CV.

He stepped into coaching in 2016/17 as he became an Assistant Coach to Slava Koulikov. He will continue as the Phantoms 1 Assistant Coach in addition to his new role with Phantoms 2.

On nights when Phantoms 2 play, he will be with them. But, when Phantoms 2 aren’t in action, he’ll be alongside Koulikov on the Phantoms 1 bench.

Jason said the following about his new role: “I’m really happy to be back in involved with Phantoms as Assistant Coach alongside Slava, and now also as Head Coach for Phantoms 2. Working primarily with Phantoms and Slava will be key to using all of the experience I have gained, and Slava’s knowledge, to have a positive relationship for player development in Peterborough.

I know myself coming through the junior development into a senior playing environment, how important it is to have a structure in place that works closely with the main team.

Speaking with Dave, Jo, Jon and Slava we all wanted to be on the same page with Peterborough development, from the junior setup into senior hockey, and this role will enable us to provide a potential path into the main phantoms team.

It’s only natural that young players from juniors moving up from u18’s have a progression path into senior hockey and being involved directly with Phantoms 2 will enable me to see upcoming players up close and install the same level of professionalism and foundations we have with Phantoms.”

And Slava Koulikov was also pleased to see Jason take on the role: “I’m really happy Bucker has taken on the role of Head Coach of Phantoms 2. Developing young local players is an important value for our club and having Jason in charge of Phantoms 2 will hopefully show our junior players that there is a path to the Phantoms first team if they work hard.  I believe Bucker has got enough experience, good ideas and is ready for this exciting challenge! I’m also glad Bucker is back as my assistant coach; he’s been brilliant to work with over the past few years and I’m looking forward to continuing that relationship!”

Phantoms owners, Jo and Dave Lane, said the following about the appointment of Buckman as the Phantoms 2 Head Coach: “We’re really happy that Jason is going to be taking on the role of Head Coach of Phantoms 2. He’s worked closely with Slava for the past few years and it’s a good opportunity for him to take charge of his own team. We want to show our junior players that there is a route to the senior Phantoms team, so to have Jason coaching Phantoms 2, it will hopefully show the young players that that pathway is in place. We have no doubt that Jason will succeed in his new role and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do”

Jason will begin to build his team for the 2020/21 season in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for all the information!

Congratulations on the new role and good luck, Jason!
