The Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to confirm the return of popular forward, Glenn Billing, on a two-year contract!
Billing began his hockey career in his hometown of Romford, before icing for a number of seasons in Swindon for their juniors and the Okanagan Academy. His senior debut came for the Swindon Wildcats and he also managed a number of GB Junior appearances.
In 2015 he moved on to the Milton Keynes Lightning, where his development continued, playing alongside fellow Phantom, Luc Johnson.
The 23-year-old originally signed for the Phantoms for the 2017/18 season, where he posted 16 goals and 16 assists and iced six times for Milton Keynes, who were in the Elite League at the time.
His second season with the club delivered many more points for the young Brit, with 14 goals and 40 assists totalling 57 points in 40 matches – making Billing a major factor in the Phantoms’ treble winning season.
Last season, Billing continued his scoring form, with 21 goals and 29 assists for 50 points in 41 games. Throughout the extended period of time with no Phantoms Hockey, Billing iced for the Swindon Wildcats and the Raiders in the Streaming Series and Spring Cup respectively.
And now the British forward is delighted to be returning to Peterborough: “I’m really excited to be back with the Phantoms! I’d like to thank Slava for giving me the opportunity to return! With the season coming to an abrupt halt last year, I feel like we have some unfinished business! There’s a real family feel around the club and we have a great group in the locker room, which made it an easy decision to stay. I’m looking forward to re-uniting with the boys and hopefully we can build on the positives from last year and bring home some silverware! I can’t wait to get back out there in front of our great fans!!”
Head Coach, Slava Koulikov, said: “What can I say about Glenny? He is a coaches “dream player”! Commitment, fitness, compete level; everything Glenny does has to be 100%; anything below is not good enough!
“Over the last three seasons, Glenny has developed into a top player in the league and plays a very big roll on our team. Glenny is a very intelligent centre, who play well in both ends of the ice and provides great links between all players on the ice. Glenny’s ability to read and anticipate situations gives him an edge above opposition and I am heavily reliant on him in all important situations.
“Glenny leads by example and reminds me of Luke Ferrara. I said when I worked with Luke: “If I could, I would clone Luke to have nine F’s for my team!” So, if I could now, I would clone Glenny too!
“Another important thing is that Glenny wants to continue to improve & develop his game and I am really happy that Glenny have committed to Phantoms for the next two seasons!” Koulikov concluded.
